Using your Credit Card

I hear alot of complaints concerning Visa\Master Cards and how they rob your wallet and leave you in debt for the rest of your life. Well, if you look at it this way, it's you who wanted it in the first place; it didn't come to you :p. But who are we kidding? we all want extra money to spend! And to avoid the annoying interests and fees i'm gonna give you some tips that will save you from debt on the long run:

  1. When considering your credit's limit, always choose a low one; 200-400 KD is an affordable amount. Since it's not your sole income then why have it high?

  2. Quit withdrawing cash!! Banks are smart enough to add extra fees on cash withdrawal because they're pretty aware of the human beings need for cash rather than purchase!

  3. Bear in mind (and this is important) that interests are due on a specific date. Which means that if you payed your credit before this date, no interests will be counted! It's like you borrowed some money from your friend and returned it with the same exact amount. However, if you payed it afterwards, the interests will be collected on a daily basis until you pay. The more you delay yourself the more interests will be added. And therefore, always remember that the 13th is the date for Visa and the 2nd is for the Master.

  4. Use your credit wisely and in case of an emergency. Don't rely on it in everything because that's not what it's made for.

Trust me, if you followed the above steps you'll spare yourself a lifetime debt which was one day based on a small amount.

Thanks for the tips.

I don't know if you can help out with this or not but I was wondering if you know anything about NBK's Internet Shopping card.

You see, last October I have subscripted for a magazine through the internet using my internet shopping visa card. All fees were deducted from my visa account but till this day I haven't received any issues. I have contacted them several times and they have confirmed that my subscription is valid but it's been almost four months now and I haven't collected anything nor heard from them.

Now the question is, is there anything NBK can do for me, like legal action or something?

Credit Cards have helped me out enormously, particularly when I first moved to kuwait and was supposed to pay for a flight, pay for accommodation (deposit plus first month's rent), rent a car, pay for petrol... and not get any of it back until my invoice has been paid up to 2 months later.

Luckily... the financial compensation was well worth it, but seriously - if it wasn't for visa and MC I'd probably not be here right now =)
