When i was little, I've always wondered why my parents would spend some time contemplating products of the same kind, let's say cheese for example. I always thought why bother? go for the well recognized and known brand and save yourself the hassle.
BUT, ever since i started earning a wage of my own, i realized how valuable money is and how it shouldn't be spent foolishly. Thus, my journeys to the super market have increased and my mental ability is lost in transaction!
Yesterday for instance, i was sent to Sultan Center to buy carrots, mozzarella cheese, vinegar and some other stuff:
- I was looking for grated sliced carrots first; those that come in a plastic bags from the USA. I couldn't find any, so i grabbed the large right-from-the-ground Kuwaiti carrots. They came for about .400 fils. I wandered a little and saw what i was originally looking for; it was for about 1.200 KD! I was like cutting a carrot at home will cost me nothing! So i ended up with the Kuwaiti product.
- Next, i ventured for the perfect vinegar since i'm addicted to it. Looked for the red rooster brand and it was for about .300 fils. The Heinz however comes for 1.100 KD. Consequently, i grabbed the red roosters'.
- The cheese part was quite tricky. There were lots of brands Buk, The 3 cows, Koop, Kraft ... etc all ranging from .400 fils to 1.300 KD. I ended up buying the special offer thing; 3 bags for 1.500 KD :P

biljam3iya i dont look at prices;p
ib malls i do ;p
it depends on what you are buying. When it comes to food, taste is more important to me.
I would say it depends...for example if I want to buy a juice I know that ABC and all the other brands are a bit cheaper than KDD but I would always go for KDD! but at times I wouldn't buying some other brand of burgers with an offer of 3 for the price of 2 :P
There are some things where it isn't always good to bargain, but for stuff like food - I mean they are all going down the toilet anyway. The higher price is just because of the brand name and imports. Especially when it comes to cheese you'd see there isn't really a big difference in quality but quite a leap in price
I've only become a bargain person recently because I realized I was living from paycheck to paycheck. I'm trying to be better at controlling where my money goes. I loved reading how you made the choices you did. Everyone could save a lot if they took time out to compare prices like you did.
um-mit3ib,
LOL!
Prices in malls is a must see, otherwise we'll end up bankrupt :\
Welcome aboard ;)
Enigma,
Of course it depends!
It's not as if i'm buying Mecca Cola just to save extra fils!
Amu,
You're right.
What i meant with bargains is that it should be applied to items that don't differ in taste from one brand to another (fruits, vegetables, mayo and stuff for example).
Kj,
LOL! That i can't disagee with!
kuwaiti woman,
I guess we have something in common, don't we? ;)
Welcome aboard.
LOL @ Mecca Cola!!
Do they sell that? :P
Taste is what really matters. I prefer co-op glass cheese over Kraft or any other brand.
Also in terms of a real bargain I don't know how to do it, I buy stuff not looking for cheaper or asking if I get a discount on it. That's bad, I know. :/
