How to sell a credit card

I've been working as a part timer in a bank for almost two years now. I've been familiar with the market, economical ups and downs and smart financial choices. However, the only thing i see myself lacking is the ability to market and sell certain products, or in another words, drag the customer to me in order to benefit the bank and earn a praise from my boss.

When i first joined my job, i wasn't familiar with what's going on with the whole business field and what the customer needed and what not. Ironically, in that period of training i was selling enormous amount of cards. I was a top seller!

Now after two years of which i should supposedly remain ascending that throne of glory, I'm descending.
Now, i get a praise my boss if i sold one or two!

Anyhow, I've asked my boss to hook me up with credit cards training sessions and listen to my top selling co-workers calls in order to get inspired and be refreshed in skills. Sadly, there hasn't been that much of an improvement.

That's why i decided to hit the target directly for deep and direct analysis; that is, YOU, the customer.
I've always called on behalf of the bank and elaborated on the bank's point of view, neglecting what the customer needed or wanted. Now I think the time has come for me to speak on behalf of the customer and his/her point of view.

Now let's imagine the following:
You are the customer, and you have just received a phone call from me regarding a credit card.
  • How would you want me to market the card?
  • What do you want/need to hear that might change your mind and get it?
  • If i told you that the Central Bank has lowered the interest rate would that interest you?
  • If i informed you that it's free from superscription for the first year, and you'll have the chance to cancel it via the phone free from any charges if you didn't like it, would that still interest you?
  • The card will enable you to benefited from sales and promotions from major outlets, is that a turn on for you?

Alot of customers would refuse it because it once made them bankrupt at the end of the month and placed them in debts. But if i offered you a card with a small limit and directed you with the perfect way of using it without getting in financial trouble, will that encourage you to take it?

Even if you don't need it, tell me how can i change your mind, because alot of customers tell me they don't need it and they have plenty of money and so on. Tell me your suggestions, your turn offs and turn ons.

I really need your honest and true feedback about this matter. Please do take this seriously and spare me the whole "i don't use credit cards" "el dain 3mat 3ain" and what not stuff.
Tell me what do you want to hear that would change your mind and take it with consent.

And wish me and Sewalef a happy selling, we do need it razz

I want banks to stop treating their customers as "Thieves until proven innocent".

Back in the US, when I suspected that there was a mistaken charge on my credit card, I call the bank, and they immediately return the money back to my card. AFTER they do that, they start their investigation. If I was right, no harm done, if I was wrong, the amount is simply deducted again.

This gives me a feeling of security and trust. This gives me a feeling that I am dealing with a professional company that respects their customers and treats them as honest and law abiding citizens.

One more thing, I DO NOT want to feel that I am dealing with a Gambling House with all those WIN 1,000,000 KD schemes.

Start by asking if they're interested in getting a credit card. If they say, "no", DO NOT try to convince them that they need one because they'll only see you as someone trying hard to rip them off.

Credit cards should be a suggested not enforced onto customers like you know what's good for them.

Anonymous,
You said it yourself, the Arabic banks are way much lower in terms of good customer service.
It's sad.

Cartman,
I thought i said i want suggestions not the whole story of "i don't use a credit card" :|

3baid,
Good point.
I never push the customer for something he doesn't want, and that's what my boss doesn't like about me, he wants me literally to "akil el 3ameel" which really sucks.

eshda3wa,
Girl you need to be independent, and a credit card is the way to start :P

Starwish,
You'll get discounts :P

Cartman,
Because you were in HUGE debt apparently.
The Customers are the ones responsible for their huge debt, not the bank. You just have to control your hand ;)

Since I am dealing with an Islamic bank, how they go about the credit card is very interesting and more people are investing in Islamic banks than any other banks these days.

Although the end is the same result, the way my bank deals with it is that there is a small monthly charge on the card ONLY if the card has been used. If I didn't use the card this month, then they don't charge me anything.

Second, if I don't settle the balance by the end of the month, instead of charging interest they simply charge a fixed penalty, a percentage of which is used to partially settle the account.

Now, instead of selling credit cards, sell internet cards. They're much more needed than credit cards trust me on this

Kafy enna you could buy anything, without being worried about monthly payment or intreasts, and what you pay everymonth is less the the previous one!! its cool..I love credit cards..

Aham shay you said, "eldain 3amat 3ain". people always prefer to stay away from debts and whatever advantages of the credit cards you offer, it still a kind of debts. and there will be a benefit if I didn't pay on time.
