That's it!

I've had it with the freaging linguistics! Seriously, who came up with the idea of creating a science so dull and boring? Unfortunately, I've discovered that a little bit late but, after intensive amount of thinking, calculating credits and graduating due year, i decided to switch to literature. Yes! I found out that all my literature courses grades were As while linguistics, allah yaster 3laihom. Second, literature widens your horizon of profound thinking and opinion. It's not merely about novels and poetry rather than ideas and thoughts being thrown at your disposal. Beside all that, it gives you the room to talk and argue which eventually strengthens your English; on the writing and speaking level. Third, if i'm ever going to continue master and Phd, it's going to be me teaching literature, not linguistics. Unfortunately, this thing just clicked since i have this desire of being a university teacher.
The thing that frustrates me the most is, i'm in my third year, which means that i'm half way through to graduation. And if i'm switching to literature, there's a big chance i might stay for summer course or the first semester of 2008 (after the forth year of course). It's a blessing i know since most of the people i know are graduating in 5 or 6 years but still, the idea of staying in university for more than 4 years is awful =\
What do you guys think? elijah? :p

My advice, make the switch!

Two reasons:
1. I battled with this same issue back in university, I didn't switch (I wanted to study linguistics ;) ) Now I regret that decision every waking day of the year.
2. It's something you love and want to be. Don't suppress that! If you graduate in linguistics, and then realize that it's really not for you, you're going to waste even more time and energy and be stressed most of the time. If you make the switch now, the time wasted is equal to the exact amount of time that would add up to your four years of college. Nothing more, nothing less.

I wish you all the best :)

take it from a pro- switch. im in my 7th year at KU, doing linguistics, having had repeated most classes just to get a fucking pass.

trust me, its better to be one semester late, doing something you love, than 4 years late, doing something you absolutely hate

Take the switch.

I studied psycholinguistics for one semester and I burnt the book after the exam. I may post photos of it.

Well..I won't be like the others and tell you to switch..But here is a thought..
A double major or a major and a minor. In that way, you'd never feel you wasted your time. ;)

Extinct Dodo said...

there's no such thing as double major at KU

Ooooh honey sorry I'm late!!

Don't worry about the duration, I studied Sociology for 2 years before I switched to English Literature and it was damn worth it. I love literature, linguistics is dull but it's good if you're looking for a job at the uni.

I would say switch, go with what you like otherwise you won't do well and you'll regret it too late.

Tell us what happens. Good Luck!

You think so? I do love it so i guess i'll follow my intuition ;)

I think you've the done the right thing by switching to a major you like.

A little bit more time in school is really nothing to worry about at all. You still have a lot of life ahead of you.

Good luck
