Are they going public??

A week ago, probably Sunday or Tuesday [it's where my classes start at 8am] i was heading to the uni. And you know, traffic is packed and jammed up real bad since it was about 7 ish so i had to do something to get rid of what i call morning sickness :P [no i'm not pregnant, not even married]. So while looking at cars and peeps i see this 10,000KD+ worth of car stopping next to me at the traffic light. Nothing major. A decent looking girl with no make up on whatsoever, great looking and a decent hejab as well. I mean real decent like there's no hair, earrings or neck showing whatsoever, EXCEPT! in the middle of my day dreaming i see a smoke coming of the window. I starred clearly and what did i see? a cigarette??? i mean, does this girl like really smoke!! i was totally amazed and puzzled at the same time. I looked at her again and she was a real angel of properness in looking and she smokes? she actually inhales!!! at freaking 7 in the morning!! I couldn't believe my eyes.
Is this how some girls turned to be like in Kuwait?? It's not a usual scene to watch a "mohajaba" inhaling sheesha in public yet we got used to it. But now they started to smoke?! This girl even threw the cigarette out the window when she finished it. Isn't this a god damn men's job!! God i swear this was awkward.
And what a surprise, i saw her today too. Smoking as well. Didn't she have enough last time? Now i wonder what would her parents or husband say if they found out. Apparently, they're not aware of her nasty habit because all her windows were down as to remove any hard evidence of smell.

Now someones got a dirty little secret of someone else :D

[I had this published for a minute and then put it as a draft but somehow shoush caught it and commented so i didn't want her comment to go to waste :p]:

U know, i don't understand. Y is it OK for men to smoke and NOT OK for women to smoke? I am not a smoker, and God forbid i ever get into that nasty habit of smoking, but i just don't get it! I mean, if i wanted to smoke, it's a personal decision. It's my health and i'll be the one harming it. Y does this have to be something related to gender?? Ppl say its 3aib oo moo 7ilwa bnaya itda5in oo madri shino, but cmon! The negative side of smoking is it's harmful side effects, so does that mean 3adi men harm their health bs women no?

Seriously, its something that puzzles me!

Ms Loala said...

I agree with you, it's not a matter of discrimination, it's just not a common thing to see in kuwait. It's new to the culture to see a kuwaiti girl smoking in public and to tell you the truth, it's not a pleasent scene =\

I do not get your comments on your own posts.

There is no difference between men and women in regards to smoking! Well from a medical point of view there is; higher lung cancer risk estimates associated with smoking exposure among women than among men! But it is a bad habbit for both! However to be honest i personally get disgusted when noticing a women that is smoking. I beleive that the selling of cigarettes and smoking should be banned.

just when the rest of the world is tryign to get rid of smoking, we get used to seeing more people smoke. I hate smokers, men or women. If it were up to me, I'd put a 100% tax (making the price 1 KD), and banning smoking from public places.

Purgatory,
The first commentis by our fellow blogger shoush. Her comment was deleted (long story) so i posted it again.

hasan.b,
Smoking does not interest me now rather than seeing that kuwaiti girl "mohajaba" smoking, i'm in trauma :p
But i do hate smoking and i encourage those who demand to ban them from the market.

niqa,
Never tried so i wouldn't guess :p

I'd say to that woman "you go girl! Show men they're not the only ones who can throw a cig out the window!"

KJ:
It is like if you were saying; if a man throws himself from a high building, then the women should follow him!?

Hamza said...

LMAO at Niqa.

well, a mo7ajaba woman smoking is like a sheikh of a mosque who is listening to haifa wahbi.

Honestly, I despise women who smoke. I feel it tarnishes their femininity and beauty.

OMG ms loala, I can't believe im reading this!!!

What the hell has the 7ijab got to do with smoking. I'm mu7ajabbah, no make up no hair or earrings showing and I smoke in public, my mother and brother know, i smoked in the car too!

Where did people get the idea that this is a man's job, where does it say that smoking is for men??

KJ:
Thank u darling

hamza:
I can't believe i'm reading ur comment.

Wake up guys and girls! Smoking is an addiction, it has nothing to do with being a male or female! and I'm telling ya when u need a cig u will smoke even if ur in hell!!

hmm..I dont know what to say, but everyone can live his life they way he\she wants to. why do we always care about what people will think of us?!

I know that's the way people in the freaking gulf think and they have a big mouth that'd quickly speared everything around. but why cant we live the life we want to?

like "It's my life and I wanna enjoy every second of it".

why cant this girl smoke? u never know what she's really going through that makes her smoke...

kel wa7ed 7or eb 7ayatah.. o ohwa o rabaah yet7asboon. why do we have to stick our nose in everything..

Personally I think when a girl smokes she loses her femininity.
No Biggie.. bas shakilha khayes ;P

I don't really give an Eff. Sej kaifhum .. its their lives and their choices. and all ..

So mithil ma i7na ma nabee a7ad yetdakhal ib 7ayatna, i7na ma nitdakhal ib 7ayat gheirna ;p

she owns an expensive car..and looks posh...I think its a chance for u to blackmail :P

jk

I dont judge ppl..but I honestly cant stand to see a woman smoking...I think there is nothing wrong with it.....bas as you said...its ssooo not attracting....like a lady with a cigarrette breath is just awful...then you have yellow brownish teeth...and on some ppl the lips start to turn purple....NOW u know why its unattracting....7ada disguesting wallah..

Elijah - I didn't mean to disrespect. I just stated my opinion. As I've said before (and confirmed by ghasheema and fayoora), I believe that smoking tarnishes the women femininity.

I know alot of smoking girlfriends and I hang out normally with them. But I'll be lying if I tell you that I enjoy it when they smoke.

I am not saying its gender-based. I hate smoking all together. I try to avoid smokers as much as I can. But as ms loala said, its a sight that you don't usually see.

In the end, its your life and your personal choice.

Hamza said...

shoush - its an analogy (maybe not a good one) to illustrate how would you feel about both cases. I didn't say listening to haifa wahbi is wrong. But it will be an UNUSUAL scene if you see a sheikh listening to her. Same for smoking, I am not saying smoking is NOT ok for women. But I am saying it is an UNUSUAL scene.

I agree that in q8 it is not a very "common" sight to see women smoking in public, but if she does smoke in public, i don't think the fact that she's mit7ajba or not shud make a difference. 7jab is a way of dressing. 7jab doesnt make a girl more religious than a girl who does not wear a 7jab. Religion is in the heart; it is something between a person and Allah. Plus religion has nothing to do with smoking or not.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I totally respect that. However, I think that if anyone wants to argue the issue of women smoking in public, it's best done without any religious references.

KJ said...

Hasan - in that case, ladies first!

I agree, the smell of cigs on both men and women is disgusting, I quit because of that and for health reasons, but my point is that it has nothing to do with 7ijab or being a woman.

I tell my male students the same thing all the time, who decided that this is for men? Drinking, drugs aren't seen by people as something for men only and they are addictions too, so why cigs?
