However, the problem that i'm currently facing is, i'm new to torrents. So basically, i don't know what are [peers, seeds and leechers]. Can someone please explain to me what are they? i googled them but i didn't find any elaborate definition.
Another thing, if you're using Azureus then can you please tell me "in basic instructions" how to remove the NAT problem? I visited Azureus Wiki and looked for the problem to figure out what it is and what are the solutions but somehow the language was alienated to me!! I don't wanna do something that involves changing my IP Address or the Routers port number :\ but i'm tired of seeing yellow and blue faces! or shall i just leave it the way it is and wait for the download to finish ages later?

Allow me to say that i'm honored to have my Mass Communication Dr who is a former minister as a reader of my humble blog. I promised to do an Arabic post and i will do it right after this one.
Please give him a nice and warm welcome since my A in his hands :P

16 Interruptions:
peers are the total number of people connected to that particular torrent, whether uploading or downloading.
seeds are the number of peers that have the full file and are uploading or "seeding the torrent".
leeches are the number of people downloading who are downloading, or "leeching the torrent. leechers willupload the fragmetns they already have while theyre downloading. until they finish the download and are therefore only uploading, thereby becoming seeders.
personally i use utorrent:
http://www.utorrent.com/
its smaller and less of a cpu hog than azureus.
i dont have a wataniya thingy and i'm not sure how that thing works.... but in a nutshell, the NAT problem means that azuarues cant connect directly to the other users cos theres something blocking it.
to get over this you have to open a port so your computer can talk directly to the other computers that youre getting stuff from. but to do that you need to know how to get into your router to change the settings.
i think your router in this case is the lil white plastic wataniya thing in the pic.
perhaps someone with a wataniya line could help with the details.
or you could call tech support and be nice and ask the guy about torrents and port forwarding. most of them will help you out even tho they shouldnt really. chances are the tech support are using the same thing to download torrents as well.
First of all, WELCOME DOCTOR! :D
about the torrent thing... i'm just like you, i don't know anything about this application! :D
I hope Skunk's comment helps... :)
Just a tip, use Utorrent, it is much better than any other client around.
Hehe, mabrook!
I would go with skunk. utorrent is the simplest and most amazing, and doesn't need installation
mabrook
i use utorrents too
so wat does our ex minister think of ur blog?
Congrats! It's about time you step out the dial-up connection world though you still need to step out of the 3rd world computer by switching to Mac. :P
skunk explained everything perfectly, and about NAT problems, don't worry and keep the torrent running for a few days, sometimes it automatically works after long hours. If not, open your Azureus options and put "32394" as your TCP/UDP listen port. It works very well for me with Azureus.
Greetings to Dr. Ex-Minister.
and you think 512 kbps are not enough? God damn my 128 kbps.
I personally prefer to use BitComet esp ver 0.70. its lightweight, fast and very efficient, but since alot of people are using uTorrent, I might as well try it
and BTW, I suggest you go buy an external hardisk soon. You'll be addicted to torrents in no time :P
only if you know what happened to me with my stupid DSL , i say you can hold on to your watanyia thingy lol :P
good for you ;)
oops forget to say hi to you DR :P
would you plz give her an A ?? she is really one of the best .. :D
well after Skunks comment there isnt much i can add :p oh and go with uTorrent :p its the best ^^;
oh and BitTorrent doesn't suck i use it on my linux desktop all the time (not to download any copyrighted material or break any copy rights off course =p )
I use azureus myself and it is a wonderful piece of software. torrents are becoming quite the thing for downloading nowadays... enjoy :)
I use Azureus. I am comfortable with it. Easy and simple. No complications.
I still don't get the NAT problem, but I just leave it like that. I don't think the downloads are affected by it. :/
Happy downloading! ;D
Skunk,
Thanks alot bro, you saved my time :)
But i still don't get the "leechers" thing ...
And about the NAT problem, as long as it works fine i don't think i need to play with the router ..
