The money curse

It's been 3 weeks since i started working at the branch, and 3 days working as a teller. And if I can describe my status there in one word it would be like BUMMER! also the f word .....

Why did i ever consented on being transferred?!

I don't know if the fault is really with me or with those stupid customers who aren't familiar with formal bank procedures (EDUCATE YOURSELVES PLEASE AND SPARE US TELLERS THE AGONY) but i can't seem to focus on my work.
It's pretty depressing and discouraging to keep making mistakes at a new place where you should impress your supervisors with your intelligence instead "mission failed".

Luckily, i hadn't miscalculated any amount that came in or out, yet, so I'm pretty much on the safe side.
But it's just those stupid mistakes that make me look like an idiot in front of my co-workers, which is really not funny.

Here's what i did so far:
  • Let a minor withdraw from her account without her father's signature.
  • Gave a customer the original copy of the voucher and i took the copy!!!!!!
  • Was about to deposit a 4 figure amount instead of withdrawing it.
  • Spread a whole 4 figure amount consisting of small bills on the counter where they should be hidden instead, you can imagine how many bills were there!!!!
  • Was about to withdraw from a customer's account under the request of his brother without being the Power of Attorney!
  • Threw important papers.
  • Used the wrong transaction commands.
And i don't know for how long these stupid mistakes are going to last

It's really strange, because i mastered my work at my old department pretty fast, but now, it's a whole different story.
I keep delaying customers for easy transactions because i keep entering the wrong numbers (damn you numbers, I've never been and never will be a fan of mathematics). And therefore, my mind is occupied with the whole Focus Focus Damn it and The Customer Is Waiting Damn it and i don't like being rushed! And when i'm rushed, i don't really focus.

It's pathetic, what do i do!

the more you stress yourself out, the more mistakes youre going to make, and then youll stress yourself out more, and the circle will keep going...

seriously, just close your eyes and breathe.

First of all, take a deep breathe before starting your day and smile at yourself :)

But before all that I'd like to say I always read your blog and I am a fan.

Another thing is that I've been in your spot once upon a time ago and know the feelings you're going through.

So now, second of all, screw the waiting customer never put their comfort above yours regardless of what you are being taught, you should always protect yourself and make sure things are good before you worry about finishing the customer because there will always be a line of waiting customers. They'll wait regardless of what and if they complain well they have no right to because you are serving a customer.

See the circle, hehehe you are doing your job, whether it's slowly or quickly it doesn't matter the important thing is that you're doing it right.

Now onto my piece of advise, I was like you mastering things really quickly, and sometimes I think I still do that but then there are things that I can never master and are just above me and I'm fine with that. The important thing however is that you will learn the process just take the time to learn it peacefully rather than in a panic way. You will learn the codes, you will learn the rules and remember this, all your co-workers started out in the same position you were in, they made mistakes, no one is perfect *believe me this is soooo true, if I were to tell you the stories* hell I took training courses and was the top of my class and I still made a mistake once. So it happens.

Just take it easy and you will be the best out there, and just you wait and see, you'll be moving upwards soon inshalla :)

I wish you the best of luck,
Your fellow Banker.

OMG you're never satisfied anywhere :P LOL!

It's ok to make mistakes but try to memorize the rules first before you blame your customers for not following them :P
