The day before yesterday, for my unfortunate luck, Venus paired up with the moon with no prior warning, I mean by the media; otherwise i would've been prepared :(
Probably some of you didn't notice, but while heading back home after work i noticed a glowing star right near the crescent. So i figured it's impossible for a star to shine that much in the city. Now why would that be a significant thing to see? i have a highly developed telescope that i bought back in the states and wanted to use it [for something other than the moon :P].
So i rushed home to grab it, wire it and turn it on but....! the freaking lenses were missing! damn you my luck. So i couldn't put it into view without my precious eye pieces. The next day, that is when i figured out that the glowing thing was actually Venus!!
Anyhow, i looked and asked around to see if anybody knew where the lenses and the manual are and found them. And fortunately, Venus was still there waiting for me at around 7 pm :P I'm not gonna bore you with details but i couldn't get a clear view, something to do with distance calculations and the damn manual wasn't specific and clear enough! now how bummer can that be?
The great thing about my telescope is that you can hook it with your pc, with the Astrofinder software installed of course and you'll get a clear view on the monitor. Matter of fact, you can control the telescope and slew it according to particular calculations of a specific planet to get a clear view and easy access to it.
The model is called Meade ETX-80AT-TC. It comes basically with two eye pieces and Autostar computer controller. Other than that you have to buy it yourself including the software. So i bought 3 additional higher magnification eye pieces and Barlow lenses to triple the power of the eye piece.
So far, i've only used one eye piece; 26mm with the 3mm Barlow lens and the result was astonishing. I would've showed you the result but as i said, i don't have the software to capture views on the monitor. I guess i'll have to order it online.
These are some views however captured by this model. You can find the rest here:

heey laish no one talked about thi before it happened!!! it not fair
:(
A Meade! Not bad at all! I'm wondering if it's safe to order a telescope online & have it delivered. Honestly, I don't trust any of the companies, especially with a $$ thing like a telescope. :)
I love astronomy myself & used to be part of the star-gazing community.
Good job! Didn't think anyone would notice that's Venus using the naked eye. :)
OMG! that thingie was Venus? :| my cousin called my that day and was like: roo7y choofy elgomar 3ndah 7bbat 5al!!!! :| i was like: wtf, ok. :P but i didnt. wasnt bothered! Dammit now I regret it! haha >_>
Oh my Oh my..... I missed it too .... DAAAAAMN!!
you have no idea how much I get geeked up for space and stars.... my blog header is a picture from Mars surface.
my cousin told me about it and that it started at 6:30, but we forgot and we watched it when it was 7:40. It was an amazing scene. I enjoyed it very much.
but I gotta envy you for the telescope. It is not very common to see people owning telescopes. In fact, you are the only one I know. :D
