iPhone

-- This one's for Mac,

This is a comprehensive list of what you will\will not find in the much anticipated iPhone.

Thumps up:

  • Built-in iPod with Video playback.
  • Intelligent predictive typing.
  • Multi-touch interface (fast).
  • Great scratch resistant screen (easily cleaned with your sleeve).
  • Tilt sensors that lock the screen when up to your face, but unlocks it when you lower it to type numbers.
  • Screen that’s visible in direct sunlight.
  • Software upgrades over time.
  • Decent voice quality.
  • Call and song control from its headphones.
  • Viewing Word, Excel and PDF documents.
  • Free live traffic in Google Maps.
  • Turn by turn directions that simulate a GPS (need to tell the phone when you’re turning).
  • Dedicated volume control and mute switch.
  • Microsoft Exchange support if your IT staff enables a setting on the server.
  • Push email via Yahoo Mail.
  • Syncing via Outlook calendar and contacts through iTunes (works even on Vista with the latest Outlook).
  • Ability to play with other applications while you talk.
  • Good battery life.
  • A “real” browser.
  • Yahoo, Gmail, AOL, EarthLink, and various other email support.
  • Visual voicemail (support for rewinding, fast forwarding like a song).
  • YouTube support.
  • Decent 2-megapixel camera.
  • It’s thin.
  • Lots of eye candy.
  • Conference call with up to 5 people.
  • Built-in speakers if you don’t want to use headphones.
  • Quicktime support in Safari.
  • Activating the phone requires iTunes and internet access.
  • A speakerphone.

Thumps down, no ....:

  • Support for all iPod accessories—doesn’t support all car adapters for playing back, only charging.
  • An easy way to transfer phone numbers, via AT&T, from an existing phone.
  • Copy and paste support.
  • MP3/iTunes music ringtones.
  • Built-in game support.
  • Flash support anywhere (including browser).
  • Instant Messaging.
  • Picture messaging (MMS).
  • Video recording.
  • Voice recognition or voice dialing.
  • Wireless Bluetooth Stereo Streaming (A2DP support).
  • One-size-fits-all headset jack (May have to buy an adapter for certain headphones).
  • 3G (EV-DO/HSDPA).
  • A hardware keyboard.
  • GPS.
  • Removable battery.
  • Expandable Storage.
  • Direct iTunes Music Store Access (Over Wi-Fi or EDGE).
  • BlackBerry support.
  • Flash or zoom on the camera.
  • Windows Media support.

Having no MMS, built-in game support and video recording present is a total bumber in my opinion. With a screen like that there can be much more to it other that talking. Not to mention the lack of 3G support. Most applications, media services and wireless data broadbanding in MTC and Wataneya requires 3G network. So i don't know, wouldn't it be awkward to have a phone with no 3G?
Another thing that i didn't get, if the phone doesn't support Mp3 format then it supports MPEG and WAV? if so, then media files must be converted first to the applicable format in order for it to play properly. There's too much of a hassle there, you see, since it has a built-in iPod.
I'd say i'm pretty much fascinated by the publicity rather than the phone itself.

Screen visible in direct sunlight :O. wow, I wanna see that in person.

But still, I won't buy it, for the same reasons you won't. ;)

KM is killing me! He wants one so bad, but I am afraid its just too fragile and not worth it after reading all of the things it DOESNT have!

Convince him for me :P

no Instant Messaging? ;\

who'd choose viewing Word, Excel and PDF documents over TEXT MESSAGES!!!!!!!

not having the "MUSTies" makes this phone nothing but crap for me lol. :P

you have to realize that the iphone is a proof of concept.
yes it dose have some draw backs after all this is their first phone :p
but the way i see it theres no where for it to go but up.
just wait for revision 2 or 3 and u'll see everything you ever wanted and more. plus i can't wait to see what cool features the ajax apps will bring to it =)

It is a pretty sad affair for it to be so high tech yet so behind in the actual cell market.

I'd wait for version 2.

No MMS! whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?

'9ayegtay 5olgy wallah !

It still is a masterpiece and I love it regardless :)

I can't wait till it arrives here, because to the best of my knowledge it can only operate on AT&T (fka Cingular) network!

Who cares about IMs and stuff when you get all the other cool features.

it looks good :D but why it doesn't have the MMS service ! thats odd !

The iPhone is very new technolgy specially that Apple is very new to the cell phone business. This makes me very careful to adopt this too early.

My advice is to wait and see how the phone will fair in the few days when the mass market uses it and discover any short comings

Thanks for the info.

Honestly I'm not dying to have one but since I was looking for a new phone instead of my crappy Nokia 9300i I thought I'd get what's best. It has all what I need.

hamza,
Ditto :P

nonowa,
Oh honey i think he's convinced already :p

missy,
excatly!
I never use word programs or PDF documents in my phone, IM is pretty cheap and fast compared to calling!
It's really a bummer.

nomad,
That's what i'm suggesting.
People who want to use the phone for "more than" calling shoud wait for the next release.

Kj,
Me too ;)

rekoo,
lol! im sorry.
Sue them? :P

Kinan,
what other cool features if it doesn't support mp3, 3g and game applications? :\

navy girl,
It's their first release, it is odd though.

himan1,
Yep :)

km,
water? :P
It's ok, i'm sure they'll avoid those draw backs in the next releases.

amu,
I like it's look, it's neat.

mac,
It's a great phone if you're using it for calling only :)

eshda3wa,
lol!
You'll get used to it.
